Raspberry Mojito

The Classic Mojito: an Old Classic

Drinks made with liquor, mint, sugarcane and limes were popular in Cuba many centuries ago, although the name Mojito didn’t appear until much later. Traditionally seen as a summertime drink, it’s a holiday favourite that’s most often found in cabanas by the beach.

Which Rum Is Best?

Mojitos are usually made with white rum, instead of dark rum, which has a lighter flavour and is clear or pale in appearance, so allows the bright pink colour of a Raspberry Mojito to really shine. It will blend nicely with the lime juice and mint that make up the base of the cocktail.

Our classic mojito recipes all feature our Havana Club 3 white rum. Both made and aged in Cuba, it has a distinctive yet not overwhelming taste that’s perfect in cocktails. Top notes include citrus, sugarcane, oak, and molasses. A great accompaniment to a fruity mojito, it pairs well with raspberry, watermelon, mango, pineapple, and strawberry.

Fruity Rum Cocktails

•  Spiced mojito. Classic mojitos are usually made with white rum, but a great way to elevate this famous cocktail is by adding spiced rum, such as Havana Club Cuban Spiced instead.
•  Pineapple mojito. This cocktail calls for the classic ingredients of lime juice, mint, soda water and Havana Club Añejo 3 Años white rum.
•  Island rum punch. With orange and pink colours that look like a sunset, this punch is made with both white and spiced rum. Other ingredients include pineapple, guava and grenadine.
•  Mango colada. This drink is summer in a glass, with mango, coconut, pineapple, and a splash of white rum. Garnish with a slice of mango, a maraschino cherry, and a cocktail umbrella.

Juice, Syrup, or Fresh Fruit?

When making a fruity cocktail, the fruit flavour can be added with syrup, juice, or fresh fruit. Syrup normally has a strong, intense flavour, and it has the benefit of being long-lasting- it can be kept in a cupboard for several months without going off. It can also be very sweet. Juice and actual fruit will lend a fresher taste but have to be bought new every time cocktails are made, so can be a less cost-effective option. Fresh fruit and juice generally have a more authentic taste than syrups.
