For salsa and timba, there’s one club that you definitely can’t afford to miss: Club 1830. You’ll be impressed right from the onset with the exceptional Havana mansion set in a lovely, Gaudi-esque outdoor garden facing the sea. On the weekends, there’s always a good crowd here and the music is so loud that you can hear the beats from across the water at Rio Mar (where you could grab a bite to eat first). Resident foreigners love this place because the locals are usually patient enough to teach you a couple of dance steps if you look lost. If your schedule allows, come on a Friday night when Club 1830 plays host to the Friday Night House Party. Or find out what nights have salsa, and if Club 1830 isn’t hosting that night, check out Casa de la Musica, Miramar or Centro Habana.
