The duo was chosen from hundreds of international entries to join a select group of regional finalists for a series of bespoke workshops on how to promote their parties and navigate the industry post-pandemic. Consolidating their knowledge from the mentoring, the finalists were invited to present a business plan to the international judging panel headed up by Imran Ciesay, founder of iconic lifestyle brand Places+Faces, Jo Vidler, founder of festival Wilderness & Art Director at El Row events and Lionel Obam, co-founder of La Sunday Abidjan.

Collectif Nude impressed the panel of experts with their Block Party concept, a two-day festival in Toronto to celebrate local talent of all kinds, from musicians and visual artists to chefs, tattooists and barbers.

International Finals

The judges whittled down three winners with the most compelling business plans from each region, including EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa), Asia Pacific and the Americas (Canada, South and Central America). The winners each received a €5,000 grant to invest in their business and were flown to Havana Club’s homeland, Cuba, to immerse themselves in the cultural spirit of the brand.

The trip culminated in a showstopping final ceremony in Havana where Collectif Nude were announced the global winner and awarded an additional €15,000 to bring The Block Party to life.

Speaking about their win, Forki says: “As a city Toronto has experienced one of the world’s longest lockdowns. The Block Party is our opportunity, with the support of Havana Club, to bring the city back together again by supporting local creatives, and their livelihoods, which have been so heavily impacted by the pandemic.

“The Party Makers programme, and the experienced mentors, taught us so much in a short amount of time. It was interesting to hear just how many participants had similar experiences to our own – it was inspiring to listen to their success stories and understand where we should redirect our focus. This support and investment will truly make our vision a reality and we’re excited to have Havana Club on board for the ride.”
